The Andes as a region of Polish mountain exploration up to 1989

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present some Polish expeditions in the Andes up to 1989. The characteristic is based on a query of publications and materials enclosing the achievements in the exploration of the individual ranges of Andes. These mountains were explored on geographical and sport levels. The activity of Poles contributed to the expansion of knowledge about the natural environment and topography, and also helped gaining the experience in technically difficult climbing spots (before departure to the highest mountains in the world).
