The challenges for local governments in the field of health care in the light of contemporary demographic problems – the case of Gdynia

The objective of the study is an analysis of the adaptation of health service activities to adverse demographic changes occurring in Poland. Analysis was based on the example of Gdynia. It was found that in the case of medical services financed by patients and private institutions no comment can be made. In the case of medical services financed by the Pomeranian Provincial Branch of the National Heath Fund, one cannot clearly state that any adaptive processes take place. However, in the case of health prevention programmes financed by the local authorities of Gdynia, it is clear that they are adapted to the challenges posed by the ageing of the population.
